Nicole did some maths earlier while we were chatting on skype and came up with this.

“If every vegan turned another person vegan each year then technically it would only take 7 years until 76.8% of the uk population would be vegan”.

Ok people just to be clear, this is not scientific calculations by any means, just some basic maths while having a conversation about veganism.

Veganism is a nice alternative to eating factory farmed meat/dairy/eggs, but I don’t think it’s an over all solution to the issue of diet — and I have been a vegan for five years (with the exception of eating eggs from my chickens for the last year, and the handful of chickens I have killed to eat.)

I’m personally reconsidering certain aspects of veganism because I am finding so many vegan recipes containing really awful foods.  Shortenings with TBHQ replacing butter, high concentrations of soy, lots of heavy oils, etc.  Now of course, once could be vegan and also not eat any processed foods, sticking to organic beans, lentils, vegetables and fruit, etc.

I think sustainability and relationship are key.  I’d rather eat pork from my friend’s farm, where I know the pigs are raised really well out in pastures than eat GMO Monsanto corn — or even just anything that was mono-cropped in fields that used to be forests or prairies using heavy amounts of pesticides, herbicides, and petroleum powered machinery to produce.

I completely agree that vegans need to address & challenge industrial agriculture - hence why organisations such as the Vegan Organic Network or the Veganic Agriculture Network as well as a host of plant based permaculture systems are so important. I hope this is a sign of a growing awareness of challenging all forms of oppression & developing regenerative ways of feeding ourselves.

However in response to ‘sustainability and relationship’ - I really don’t feel you can have a relationship with something by domesticating it, farming it & killing it (sounds like domination to me!).

I think you can have relationship with the animals in your care.  For instance, I have eleven chickens.  They have a very large space to run about freely and do as they wish.  I feed them, bring them water, clean up their coop, and when necessary, give them medical attention.  I recognize them as individuals, and the ones I have raised from day old chicks will gladly run up to me and perch on me if I sit with them.

I have had bonds with horses and dogs, and the two dogs I have now, I try to thing of as friends, not pets.  Obviously, they are in my care though, as it’s up to me to keep them fed as we don’t live in some large, lush forest where they could scavenge.

I feel like hunters can enter into relationship with their prey, and honestly, I feel like I can enter into relationship with the squash, the strawberries, and the plants that live in my yard as well.  Even organic growing is still “farming” and thus dominating plants according to the strictest definitions.  In that vein, vegans are still partaking in the product of speciesism.

Ultimately, the only way to survive without any sort of agriculture is hunting and gathering.  Don’t get me wrong, I WOULD LOVE to live in a hunter gatherer tribe.  When I finally move out to a piece of untouched acreage I hope to include hunting, fishing, and gathering in my survival strategy.  However, it’s not feasible at this point, until we take down industrial civilization, for people to live as hunter gatherers.  The stocks of wild fish and game and nuts and roots just don’t exist.  They have been turned into parking lots and soy bean fields.

I’m not shitting on veganism.  I think it’s a good strategy for avoiding the products of torture and cruelty.  I just don’t think its a panacea.  We need to end civ.

Antifascists attack white supremacist meeting and hospitalize several fascists — Chicago, IL
According to internet sources, antifascists, numbering near 30, entered the Ashford House restaurant around noon on May 19th where the “5th annual white nationalist economic summit” meeting was being held. The antifascists were allegedly throwing bats, hammers and chairs, leaving multiple white supremacists hospitalized and successfully bringing the meeting to a brutal end. Taken From antiracistaction.org: In response to Mob Attacked Specific Group of People Inside Tinley Park Restaurant On Saturday, May 19th a group of 30 anti-fascists descended upon Ashford House restaurant in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park where the 5th annual White Nationalist Economic Summit and Illinois White Nationalist Meet-and-Greet was taking place. The White Nationalists were targeted inside the restaurant and physically attacked, causing several injuries and completely shutting down their meeting. The anti-fascist group was privy to anonymous inside information. This fascist event had been in secret planning for six months. The attendees have attempted to cover up the true intent of the event with mainstream media reports initially reporting the white nationalist conference as a wedding party and then as an Irish heritage meeting. The event was advertised on www.stormfront.org, an established white nationalist fascist internet forum. Anti-fascists oppose any organizing by racists and fascist in their communities. Fascist and white nationalist organizing has resulted in a number of horrifying incidents, from the recent J.T. Ready shootings in Arizona to the Benjamin Nathaniel Smith shooting in the West Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago, as just two examples. These anti-fascists are committed to shutting down and attacking any racist, nationalist, or fascist organizers or individuals that they encounter.

Occupy Oakland is Dead -

Excerpt: “…all of the camps were evicted by the cops. Every single one.

All of those liberated spaces where rebellious relationships, ideas and actions could proliferate were bulldozed like so many shanty towns across the world that stand in the way of airports, highways and Olympic arenas. The sad reality is that we are not getting those camps back. Not after power saw the contagious militancy spreading from Oakland and other points of conflict on the Occupy map and realized what a threat all those tents and card board signs and discussions late into the night could potentially become.

No matter how different Occupy Oakland was from the rest of Occupy Wall Street, its life and death were intimately connected with the health of the broader movement. Once the camps were evicted, the other major defining feature of Occupy, the general assemblies, were left without an anchor and have since floated into irrelevance as hollow decision making bodies that represent no one and are more concerned with their own reproduction than anything else.”

r-i-o-t:

how do you react if ur girl squirts during sex? what is appropriate?

do you say “oh, i see you squirted there”? do you play it cool? do you lick it up earnestly? do you walk away? help

I do my best to make her squirt again.

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!
It isn’t fit for humans now,
There isn’t grass to graze a cow.
Swarm over, Death!
Come, bombs and blow to smithereens
Those air -conditioned, bright canteens,
Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans,
Tinned minds, tinned breath.

Mess up the mess they call a town-
A house for ninety-seven down
And once a week a half a crown
For twenty years.

And get that man with double chin
Who’ll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women’s tears:

And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.

But spare the bald young clerks who add
The profits of the stinking cad;
It’s not their fault that they are mad,
They’ve tasted Hell.

It’s not their fault they do not know
The birdsong from the radio,
It’s not their fault they often go
To Maidenhead

And talk of sport and makes of cars
In various bogus-Tudor bars
And daren’t look up and see the stars
But belch instead.

In labour-saving homes, with care
Their wives frizz out peroxide hair
And dry it in synthetic air
And paint their nails.

Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough
To get it ready for the plough.
The cabbages are coming now;
The earth exhales.

” — Slough

8 Benefits of Spinach
1. Loaded with Vitamins: like A, K, D, and E and a host of trace minerals.
2. Good Source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids: the kind most of us need in North America.
3. Anti-Cancer and Anti-Inflammatory Antioxidants: Researchers have identified more than a dozen different flavonoid compounds in spinach that function as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer agents. In a recent study on the relationship between risk of prostate cancer and vegetable intake (including such healthy vegetables as broccoli, cabbage, and brussel sprouts) only spinach showed evidence of significant protection against the occurrence of aggressive prostate cancer.
4. Alkalizes the Body: All those minerals helps to balance off the highly acid diet which most of us subject our bodies to and which drains our energy, increases obesity and a creates host of other health problems.
5. Nourishes the Eyes: The carotenoids found in spinach protect against eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration.
6. Strengthens the Bones: One cup of fresh spinach (or 1/6 cup of cooked spinach) contains TWICE your daily vitamin K needs. This along with the calcium and magnesium in spinach is essential to maintain healthy bones.
7. Perfect for Green Smoothies and Salads: Organic pre-washed spinach is now readily available in most grocery stores. If you haven’t yet tried a green smoothie yet and think they might taste yucky then try one with the main ingredient as spinach. Spinach is so sweet, we guarantee you will be impressed.
8. Spinach is FRESH! Studies have shown that even the artificial light in the grocery store shining on those plastic tubs of spinach can actually help keep the leaves from spoiling. This indicates the spinach is still metabolically active and fresh. (x)

Spinach is also easy as hell to grow.  Plant three to five seeds per hole, and space the holes out by about four or five inches.  Eat the leaves as they come in, and when the plant bolts, a large stalk will grow vertically about a foot to a foot and a half high.   This stalk will have smaller and smaller leaves separated by clusters of seeds.  Wait for the stalk to fall over and the seeds to brown.  Pull the stalk, collect the seeds, plant again next season.
