There seems to be, in anarchist (and probably all radical) circles, this idea of The Revolution. A mythical day always just a few years away when the people will all rise up and throw off their chains, finally seeing the light and becoming truly free.

This is how I make my raised beds. I include a layer of horse manure on top of the wood, though, before I add soil. The idea is that the buried wood stores moisture and releases it to the plant roots in dryer times (this is Texas, after all). The decomposing wood also releases nutrients to the plants.

– Cormac McCarthy: The Road
This passage moves me every time I read it. I think it contains more truth than anything I have ever read. McCarthy’s vision is bigger than that of most men, trapped in themselves, trapped in their time. He sees the bigness of the world, and the smallness of men. ...

Occupy: Embrace What You Are!
By John Duffy
Since the beginning of the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City and around the US and the globe, there has been a constancy of criticism coming from the entrenched establishment and its would-be supporters. It’s easy enough to ignore the banality and mindlessness of the critiques coming from this camp—critiques aimed at the supposèd lack of direction amongst...

My Friends of OWS,
My message will have to be brief. But let not this brevity take from it, its strength.
You are the central movement of the hour. You’re raising questions that are in the hearts of millions. Your motto, “We are the 99%,” has been heard, heeded, and responded to by millions. You can be certain that the 1% have heard you clearest of all.
Your work, however, is just beginning....
Culture of Resistance
A culture of resistance is a culture in which the arbitrary authority is despised, the boss reviled, and there is absolutely no sympathy for oppressors. In simple terms, revolt must be “cool.” Of course, such language reeks of anti-intellectualism. Indeed, “cool” was co-opted and commodified ages ago. But law worship must end. Nation worship and flag fetishization must...

I feel that I have reason and authority to comment on this. I am now what I call “commercially vegan.” For ten years I have been a vegetarian, for four of them vegan, for the last year, “commercially vegan,” as I began to raise animals — chickens— and I also started learning how to hunt. I appreciate the passion of vegans, and the dedication to actually act...
